BVM researches and provides innovative, high quality disposable and implantable medical devices for the specialist interventionalist, with the objective of improving patient care and treatment outcomes. The company markets a comprehensive solution to chronic pain management – the Baylis RF Pain Management System.
BVM Medical is a progressive and dynamic privately owned organisation, centrally located in the UK, from where it started trading in 1989. The company has developed a well-respected international reputation in the field of interventional therapies.
BVM specialises in the marketing and distribution of hi-tech cardiovascular and surgical products to a wide clinical audience, including interventional radiologists, paediatric and adult cardiologists, vascular and cardiac surgeons, gastroenterologists and anaesthetists / pain management specialists. These products are usually creative, niche specialities with unique properties and benefits for enhanced patient outcomes.
The product portfolio also extends for use in paediatric ICUs and CCUs, as well as into wound management clinics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology wards.
BVM has been highly successful in growing the business from scratch into a multi-million pound corporation during its first 15+ years of continuous operation. This has been achieved both by organic growth in existing products and by the introduction of new, innovative technologies for which BVM is well recognised. Underpinning this success has been the establishment of strong relationships with world-renowned clinicians and with manufactures from the USA, Japan and Europe, including the UK, France and Germany.
A STRONG ETHIC OF SERVICE
BVM Medical has a strong ethic of building close, dependable working relationships with clinical customers and intellectual leaders, and by offering 24 hour supportive services, 365 days a year. These embrace product despatch, delivery, in-situ technical help and ongoing professional advice. The company believes that specialist, focused, personal service is paramount to its growth.
BVM sponsors clinical research programmes, educational seminars and practical workshops to keep its customers at the forefront of technology in the rapidly expanding area of minimally invasive healthcare. BVM is small enough to care, yet large enough to deliver.
THE BAYLIS RF PAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Chronic back pain is widespread, debilitating and not always effectively treatable. Many doctors, surgeons and radiologists consider it to be one of the major medical conditions which affect people across the globe, so it is no wonder that the treatment of back pain and disc herniation is becoming more successful using interventional techniques.
The Baylis Radio-Frequency system for the management of back pain is a safe, proven and increasingly popular means of providing relief from chronic pain of a lasting nature. Radiofrequency lesioning is performed by a Pain Specialist or Anaesthetist on an outpatient basis. Following the administration of a local anaesthetic, fluoroscopy will guide a small insulated needle into the general area where pain is being experienced.
During treatment the Baylis Generator transmits a small RF current through the needle, so as to disrupt the specific nerve sending pain signals to the brain. It is a straightforward and brief procedure. The Baylis Generator is a system designed for the future of pain management and its software platform incorporates facilities for the incorporation of new technologies as they emerge.
The Baylis RF system for pain management is of a high specification:
- It is a lightweight and portable system, with soft-touch keys for the selection of a variety of modes available.
- The modes include stimulation (voltage and current), standard and pulsed RF (both manual and automatic), TransDiscalTM, intradiscal lesioning and RF annuloplasty
- A large, clear LCD screen displays real time digital graphs of critical treatment data, including temperature, time, power, voltage and impedence.
- Self-testing during each power up.
The Baylis Transdiscal System takes disc treatments to a new level. It uses a bipolar approach in conjunction with internally water-cooled RF probes to coagulate and deactivate nerves, while decompressing disc material in order to treat symptomatic patients with discogenic pain and contained herniated discs. The advantages of RF lesioning for pain dissipation include:
- Unlike surgery, there is no incision, so it is relatively a traumatic.
- It is performed under local anaesthetic as an outpatient procedure.
- It is therefore ‘clean’, rapid and with minimal risk of infection.
- Any discomfort is minor, transient and subsides with otc medicaments.
- Most people can be returning to work after one or two days, so little time is lost in productivity. They can usually resume normal daily activities because pain relief lasts for up to 24 months.
